How Does a Home Paternity Test Work?
When you order a paternity test from GTL, the first thing we do is ship it to you discreetly. We understand the sensitive nature of your situation and do all we can to aid your privacy. This starts with the way we deliver your home paternity test: in a plain envelope, with GTL Australia and our PO Box printed in the return address area, and nothing more. The return envelope provided for the home paternity test is marked in a similarly discreet fashion.
When your DNA paternity test arrives, it will contain detailed instructions and collection materials for buccal or blood sample collection from your child and the alleged father. Samples taken for legal paternity tests need to be taken according to accreditation standards. Please be sure to follow instructions carefully.
Buccal samples are taken via rubbing a large Q-tip-shaped swap along the inside of the mouth. Blood samples are gathered by pricking a fingertip with the small lancet provided and squeezing a little drop of blood onto the collection card. For children younger than age 8, it is strongly recommend you get doctor assistance for the blood sample.
After your home paternity test has been remitted to GTL Australia in the provided shipping envelope, we put the DNA samples through a precise chromosomal analysis to match the DNA sequences of your child and the alleged father as submitted with the paternity testing kit. From this information, we can conclusively identify with nearly greater than 99% certainty whether an alleged father is indeed a child's biological father.
GTL Australia will mail you a printed copy of the results in a discreetly marked envelope for your personal records.

Buccal Sample or Blood Sample?
Is One Better?
There is no difference in the DNA results that could occur from using a buccal sample versus using a blood sample. Quite simply, your DNA is your DNA no matter where on your body it is collected from. GTL Australia provides two DNA collection options in our home paternity test merely as a convenience to you and your child.
Collecting a Buccal Sample
Getting it Right
A buccal swab resembles a large Q-Tip and is used to collect a sample of cheek cells by rubbing the inside of the cheeks. When taking a buccal sample for the home paternity test, you should avoid drinking coffee for a few hours before taking the sample. Smokers should rinse and brush their cheeks with a toothbrush beforehand.
