From $649 Grandparentage Test

Grandparentage DNA testing can be used when grandparents need to confirm the biological relationship to their grandchild. This test will show the statistical probability that the grandparents are genetically related to their grandchild.

Postal and Delivery times are constantly changing. Whilst every effort is made to reduce time where possible this cannot always be achieved due to actions outside our control. The times quoted are from the time the final sample is received.

What will the Grandparent Test Results Show?

The grandparentage test results will first establish the probability of relationship between grandmother and grandson or granddaughter as well as the probability of relationship between grandfather and grandson or granddaughter. Once have these two probabilities have been calculated, they go on to work out a missing person profile (technically called a “derived profile”). The derived profile is essentially a reconstruction of the missing, alleged father’s DNA profile. If the derived profile matches the DNA profile of the grandchild, then the untested alleged father of is the biological father of the grandchild tested. The test is in fact also called a missing parent test as by taking the DNA of paternal grandparents, laboratories can reconstruct the profile of the their children (the missing parent).

Test results are intended to provide a statistical likelihood that gives evidence to support the alleged relationship in question. Providing additional parties to be tested (for example, a known parent’s sample) or performing direct relationship testing may provide additional evidence.

Important Notes

Our grandparents DNA test starts from From $649 for testing grandmother, grandfather and 1 grandson or granddaughter. That this is cost for a peace of mind test. Results will be ready in just 7-10 working days from receipt of samples at our laboratory.

The test requires the samples of both the grandmother and the grandfather. We cannot offer the test if only one grandparent is available.

We can only guarantee standard result turnaround time when grandparents testing takes place solely using mouth swab samples. Using a discreet sample for your test may lead to an increase in turnaround time.

Collecting your Sample

A DNA sample is quick and easy to collect thanks to our easy-to-use and extremely user friendly home sample collection kit. The kit contains what are referred to as buccal swabs which can be used to collect your DNA samples. 4 swabs need to be used for every person tested following carefully the instructions we provide inside our kit. The kit will also contain the consent forms to be filled in by every person taking part in the test and returned to the laboratory alongside the samples.

Legal Grandparent Testing

If you require a grandparentage test with court admissible results, you can contact us to get a quote. The test includes a notarised result which can be presented in court to support evidence of an alleged relationship between the people tested. For legal testing, sampling is done using a kit and are collected by a neutral third party knows as a sampler.

Testing between Grandfather and Grandson

Although we do not offer grandparent testing with a single grandparent we can offer the test if it involves solely male participants. In such cases, we suggest a Y chromosome test. This test is extremely accurate at confirming whether the males tested share a common paternal line.
